A PERFECT performance by the Kangaroo Flat Primary School Choir has wowed judges at the 119th Royal South Street Competitions in Ballarat this week.
Shrugging off its pre-performance nerves and wearing matching rainbow vests, the choir came first from a group of eight schools in the Lions Club primary school choral contest.
It was also placed second from 11 schools in the primary school choirs contest.
The choir of 40 students from grades 4 to 6 was up against choirs from Melbourne, Ballarat and several regional state schools.
Music teacher and choir organiser Merle Hopman said the students demonstrated beautiful tone and excellence in stage presentation.
“There were some early nerves among the group, but it came together on the day and they were delighted with the results.” she said.
Ms Hopman added that the win was a first for the school and was great recognition for the students’ hard work.
The choir will take to the stage again in October for the 60th anniversary of the Kangaroo Flat Country Women’s Association.
The annual Royal South Street Competition runs for three months and attracts more than 10,000 statewide student performers to Her Majesty’s Theatre in Ballarat.
