DESPITE battling floods last week, the Country Fire Authority is out and about spreading the fire safety message ahead of the arrival of hot dry days.Loddon Mallee region staff are working to warn residents in high-risk areas, distributing information on what to do in the event of a bush or grass fire and reducing risks around the home.Fire Ready Victoria meetings have been planned across the region, including Heathcote, Maryborough and Woodend.“The aim of the Fire Ready Victoria meetings is to inform people of the dangers of bushfires and what they need to to do on high fire risk days and how to develop their plans,” community education co-ordinator Karen Marini said.“We want to get to as many people as possible in the high fire risk areas.”Ms Marini encouraged residents to either attend a community meeting or visit a display.“This provides a great opportunity to obtain an overview of current and projected on-ground conditions along with key information on bushfire preparation and survival,” she said.Fire ready kits, fire danger ratings, community meetings, community fireguards and general bushfire information are provided at each meeting.A series of workshops have also been planned for around the Loddon Mallee region which takes in the City of Greater Bendigo, Mount Alexander, Central Goldfields and Macedon Ranges shires.Ms Marini said trained Fire Ready Victoria presenters would provide information and answer questions at each meeting while workshops would help residents start writing their fire safety plans.A full list of meeting dates and times is available at www.cfa.vic.gov.au.
