Burglar targets Bendigo motels

07 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
Police have identified a suspect in the burglary of two Bendigo motels.

Comfort Inn Julie-Anna, in Napier Street, and Comfort Inn Central Deborah, in High Street, were burgled early yesterday morning and more than $2000 in cash was stolen.

Police are investigating the burglaries and yesterday confirmed they were connected.

Acting Sergeant Mick McCrann said the doors had been forced open in the reception areas to gain access to both motels.

“On both occasions tills have been forced and internal doors have been damaged.’’

Acting Sergeant McCrann said $1200 was stolen from the Comfort Inn Julie-Anna and $1000 from the Comfort Inn Central Deborah.

“The crime scene is being processed today,” he said. “Some evidence has already been found which we hope will lead to the offender.

“A screwdriver was found at the Napier Street motel which appears to be the one used to force the doors.

“A cash register and small amount of cash has been found at Baxter Street, Bendigo.”

Detective Senior Constable Tony Roberts said police had a suspect in mind but were yet to make an arrest.
