Boy, it’s hot in Bendigo

The mercury is expected to climb to 40 today following a steamy 38 degrees in Bendigo yesterday.And with at least mid-30s temperatures predicted for the rest of the week, the CFA is forecasting very high fire-danger ratings for the north-central district.Residents are urged to be vigilant in the hot weather and to follow a commonsense approach, including checking bushfire survival plans and monitoring the weather.Senior station officer at the Bendigo Fire Brigade Dale Stemmer said the weekend had been a quiet one and he hoped it would stay that way.“People just need to be aware that while we’ve got floods and had significant rainfall lately there’s still a lot of dry vegetation around and there is the possibility we could still end up with severe fires.”Big Day Out revellers were also not spared from the swelter – more than 1000 people at the music festival needed treatment, mainly for dehydration.
