Bitten, bashed: Local good Samaritan attacked after rescue

22 Mar, 2010 09:08 AM
A MAN was bitten and bashed at his Kangaroo Flat home in the early hours of yesterday morning during an alleged violent revenge attack.

Police said the 25-year-old man was set upon after breaking up a domestic argument between his attacker and the attacker’s female partner.

Sergeant Bruce Simpson said the 25-year-old had heard the woman screaming and rushed to her aid just after 1am.

The woman, 29, had suffered severe facial injuries and required medical attention after allegedly being beaten by her partner, also 29.

“They’ve come home and a domestic has started between the two, and the woman was assaulted,” Sergeant Simpson said.

“The resident heard the woman scream and he’s gone over to intervene.”

Sergeant Simpson said the resident returned home when the assault stopped.

However, in what police describe as a violent act of revenge, the offender is alleged to have followed the resident home, kicked down his door and begun savagely beating him.

Sergeant Simpson said the incident, fuelled by alcohol, was one of the worst types of domestic assaults.

“A lot of the domestics that we attend are associated with the consumption of alcohol.

“That’s why family violence laws are so stringent, to try and stop these types of offences happening, because it is just unacceptable.”

The 25-year-old is believed to have suffered severe bruising and cuts as well as bite marks to his abdomen.

He and the woman were taken to the Bendigo Base Hospital.

The 29-year-old was arrested at his home just after 2pm.

He has been charged with aggravated burglary and serious assault offences.

Sergeant Simpson said the man had been bailed to appear in the Bendigo Magistrates Court at a later date.
