A MAIDEN Gully man’s bizarre phone call to police led to his own car being impounded on Sunday afternoon. The 26-year-old phoned police on Sunday morning and reported that an unknown person was hooning around in a car in Edwards Road, Maiden Gully.Police, who were nearby, responded immediately - only to find the caller himself in the driver’s seat doing burnouts.Senior Constable Mick McCrann from the Bendigo traffic management unit said the caller’s hoon-like behaviour had caused excessive noise and smoke and left thick tyre marks on the road.A rear tyre had blown out during the burnouts, he said.Police were so concerned about the man’s unusual behaviour that after he was arrested, he was taken to the Bendigo Hospital to be assessed.Police later impounded the man’s Holden Commodore for 48 hours, making him the 425th person to have his car impounded in Bendigo. He will be charged on summons to appear in the Bendigo Magistrates Court next year.Yesterday morning a car with three people in it was stopped on the Loddon Valley Highway by Bendigo police, who said it was carrying stolen goods. Police were on the lookout for the black Ford sedan after it had been recognised during a robbery at a caravan park at Lake Charm, between Kerang and Swan Hill, early yesterday.Alcohol valued at more than $150 and a $300 portable cooler were reported stolen from a cabin at the park about 2.30am.The robbery was reported to Kerang police, who alerted Bendigo police that a car carrying the stolen goods was headed towards Bendigo.About 11.30am yesterday police saw the car on the Loddon Valley Highway.A woman driver and two men were taken to the Bendigo police station for questioning.Senior Constable McCrann said the two men, a 22-year-old from Epsom and a 25-year-old from Kerang, would be charged on summons to appear in the Kerang Magistrates Court next year. The woman was released without being charged.
