ORGANISERS are hoping to get 2000 people for a fun run to raise money for Bendigo Health’s special care baby unit. The Bendigo Bank ‘Run for Gold’ Fun Run, to be held on October 30, aims to raise $50,000 to help the hospital’s littlest patients.Last year 360 babies came through Bendigo Health’s special care baby unit, a unit which cares for sick and premature babies.Money raised from the fun run will be used to buy additional medical equipment.“The additional equipment will enhance the service and provide extra comfort,” Bendigo Health spokesperson Loretta Gibson said.Ms Gibson said the unit serviced a community of 300,000 people as it is the only “level two” nursery in the Loddon Mallee region.Babies come from as far as Kerang, Echuca and Mildura to be cared for at the unit, with some staying for up to six weeks. The Bendigo Bank Fun Run is now in its third year and this is the first time money will be raised for the unit.People can enter either a 5km run/walk or a 10km run, by themselves or as part of a team. The course will start in Chapel Street and conclude at Dai Gum San with a healthy breakfast. The first 2000 entrants will receive a free cap and show bag and there will be prizes for winners in all divisions.Keen fun runners can head to www.bhfoundation.org.au to sign up with early bird registrations closing on September 1.
