Bendigo cyclist in critical condition after crash

06 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
A BENDIGO cyclist is in an induced coma in the Royal Melbourne Hospital after colliding with another bike yesterday afternoon.

The 56-year-old woman was riding with her husband in Kangaroo Flat when the accident happened about 1pm.

“They were riding together down Taylor Street when her wheel clipped his,” Bendigo Police Senior Constable Rachel Colliver said.

“She’s fallen off and sustained severe head injuries despite wearing protective gear.”

Ambulance Victoria spokesman John Mullen said paramedics stabilised the woman before driving her to the car park at Rocklea Home Centre where the air ambulance was waiting.

“They will be inducing her into a coma with apparatus breathing for her,” he said. “She’s sustained a head injury... and her condition is critical.”

Bendigo Police are asking any witnesses with information regarding the accident to call them on 5448 1363.
