One of Bendigo’s most-loved buildings appears to have a spooky secret, as KAREN SWEENEY reports ...ST AIDAN’S Orphanage in Kennington is an old building with an interesting history – so it’s not surprising paranormal experiences have been reported there.A few years ago Clare Robinson had an experience she will never forget. She was involved in a theatre production at the old orphanage with her then boyfriend and his friends.“We had full run of the place, including the attic and upper floors, which were off limits a couple of months later when I helped with another production by the same group,” she said.“The day before the production we ran through our roles and took the rest of the afternoon to explore the place.”She and her boyfriend went up to the attic to explore.“There was an extremely eerie feeling up there, like we were being watched,” she said.“I can’t really explain.”Ms Robinson said she heard voices, whispers and other strange noises in the attic.“And on the third flood (it was) almost like people were working and living there, running around and going about their day,” she said.“At one point I felt a sharp tug on the hem of the dress shirt I was wearing.“I immediately turned around to see if it was my ex playing around with me, but he was at the other end of the room.”Ms Robinson said she had been creeped out by the experience but it triggered her fascination with the paranormal.“I am very keen to get out there some more and find more evidence of the spirit world,” she said.
