The facelift is expected to take around six weeks.
Works will include external restoration of the first and second levels of the building plus painting the facade.
City of Greater Bendigo place manager Philip DeAraugo said the works would help bring the building back to life.

“The restoration is part of securing the future of this significant heritage building and maintaining the integrity of its heritage," he said.
“The work to be undertaken includes repairs to the plaster work, repairs to the windows and the repainting of the Pall Mall façade with an original lime wash to bring this amazing building back to its original grandeur.
“An on-site investigation which included paint scrapings has revealed that the original lime wash colour is a much more earthy colour similar to the Town Hall and the Capital rather than the current off-white colour.

“The work has been approved by Heritage Victoria and the project will be undertaken using a boom lift from the street. The work may also require a lightweight scaffold tower to be erected on top of the shop awning to allow access to the lower windows."
Costing for the project is $106,700 and will be proportionally divided between the City of Greater Bendigo and other owners of the building.
The restoration will be undertaken by Period Building Conservation, who recently took out the Bendigo Heritage Award in the Specialist Heritage Trade Skills category for their work on the Capital and the Former Mining Exchange.
