11 Sep, 2010 02:24 PM
The SES have downgraded the Avoca River flood threat in Quambatook to moderate.

The main floodwaters from the Avoca River have arrived in Quambatook and residents are experiencing moderate flooding.

The SES downgraded the Avoca flood threat from major to moderate earlier today as no significant rainfall has been recorded in the Avoca River catchment in 24 hours. There is also no rain forecast for the rest of the weekend.

The Avoca River at Quambatook is peaking just above the moderate flood level at 2.23 metres and is expected to stay that way for at least the rest of today.

The Loddon River flood threat has today been reissued and remains at moderate. The main floodwaters have arrived in Appin South and with 4mm of rain recorded in the Loddon catchment small stream rises are expected.

In Appin South the Loddon River continues to rise and is expected to peak around 3.1 metres later today.

Meanwhile, with the Murray River expected to burst its banks next week Echuca and Torrumbarry have called community meetings.

Echuca will hold its meeting tomorrow at 5pm at the Port of Echuca Quality Inn while Torrumbarry will hold its meeting at 7pm tomorrow night at the Torrumbarry Hotel.
