BUSINESSES at Lake Eppalock are gearing up for a bumper summer, with the lake at 59.51 per capacity.
Latest figures from Goulburn-Murray Water show Lake Eppalock has 181,300 megalitres – an increase from 33.3 per cent last Friday.
Lake Eppalock Marine owner Kevin Barker was ordering more boats and engines yesterday.
“It’s terrific, in three weeks I’ve sold three boats,’’ he said.
“Two of the buyers said they were buying because the lake was up.’’
Mr Barker, who has owned the business for 13 years, said the past eight years had been really tough.
“We’ve kept the business lean and competitive for many years,’’ he said.
“Now we’ll have to hire staff and stock up on boats.’’
Mr Barker said there was a buzz at the lake, with thousands of people visiting in recent weeks.
“In 15 minutes I counted 100 cars coming in and out at the main boat ramp,’’ he said.
Lakeshore Caravan Park owner Norma Sutherland said she was gearing up for a busy summer, with a constant flow of people already visiting Lake Eppalock.
“I’ll have to hire staff, which I haven’t done for six years,’’ she said.
Ms Sutherland said sites were filling up quickly.
“People are coming out of the woodwork. The water has generated so much interest,’’ she said.
Ms Sutherland said she had seen the good, the bad and the ugly in her 24 years at the caravan park.
“When there was no water I lost 25 vans in one swoop.’’
