Hanky Matilda & Miranda duo show nose for design

10 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
A BENDIGO-based design and wholesale duo will launch their new handkerchief range at the Fashion Exposed trade fair in Sydney this weekend.

Rosdale wholesalers director Tania Roff will exhibit the Matilda & Miranda range over three days for traders across Australia and New Zealand in the hope retailers will take on the brand.

“It has been quite a few months in the making developing styles and in production,” she said.

“We’re really happy with the finished product... People have some funny ideas about handkerchiefs. We want to get people away from that so they see them as an accessory, not just something you can blow you nose with.”

Designer and Bob Boutique owner Sonia Brit said the Matilda & Miranda concept was developed over countless cups of coffee and brainstorming sessions.

“Tania (Roff) knew what she wanted from the start,” she said. “I would imagine the scenes and come to her with my sketches.

“We were targeting a more mature market... with a Parisian theme. Although two girls are pictured throughout, Matilda and Miranda are really two birds who travel the world... Their next destination will be London.”

The Matilda & Miranda range features five different European designs each in three alternate colours. Mrs Roff said the handkerchiefs were the beginning of a new concept that would see Ms Brit’s designs extend to other accessories and homewares.
