TWO men were flown to The Alfred hospital and Royal Melbourne Hospital after a single car rollover on the Calder Alternate Highway at Lockwood yesterday.
The pair was headed north toward Bendigo when the accident occurred just after noon.
Emergency services worked for over an hour to free the trapped men, eventually rescuing one through the rear hatch of the car and the other through the front passenger door.
The New South Wales registered car came off the road and appeared to have landed on large log.
Police blocked the Calder Alternate Highway in both directions.
Ambulance Victoria spokesperson John Mullen said the pair suffered serious injuries but were in a stable condition.
“One passenger is a 26-year-old male who sustained injuries to his leg and arm while the other is a 24-year-old male who has a laceration to his head,” he said.
Acting Senior Sergeant Rosie Rowe said there would be an investigation into the rollover and if the road service was a factor in causing the accident.
“It was perfect driving conditions and good visibility, this goes to show that a collision can happen at any time,” Acting Senior Sergeant Rowe said.
Both men were seriously injured, but could still speak with emergency services.
The Bendigo highway patrol is calling for any witnesses to come forward to aid the investigation.
