THE Bendigo Traders Association will hold its first meeting of the year on February 8.
It will be the first meeting held by the association after seven months in hibernation, allowing time for a rethink of the BTA strategy post the non-renewal of the CBD Marketing levy.
The BTA existed in Bendigo in different forms and structures for a number of years as both a marketing organisation and a business advocate.
Former executive officer Nic Bannan said that although there would be no funds on hand to stage events, traders saw the need for a committee of people wanting to stage events in Bendigo and in the Hargreaves Mall.
He said there was a need for a group that could advise what was happening regarding business in Bendigo and matters that were yet to be resolved such as the bus stop in the CBD.
“Traders need a unified voice rather than all 560 having to be consulted on such matters,’’ he said.
“The BTA is in a fantastic position at present to measure itself and adapt to the changing business environment.
“The BTA will be discussing in initial meetings what it was, what it has done, can do and will do for the benefit of business in Bendigo.’’
